Field of Work / Underwater Exploration
Domain 02Underwater Exploration
Reading the seabed and what lies below it — for cables, pipelines, resources and hazards — in one of the hardest environments to measure.
Below the surface, below the seabed
Water hides the ground twice over — once beneath the waves and again beneath the seabed. Marine geophysics lets us map both: bathymetry, sediment, sub-seabed structure, buried hazards and resources, all without disturbing the marine environment.
It underpins subsea cable and pipeline routing, offshore foundations, resource assessment and environmental monitoring, where a surprise on the seafloor is enormously expensive to discover the hard way.
Offshore, the cost of finding out the hard way is measured in vessels per day.
Typical applications
- Subsea cable and pipeline route surveys
- Offshore foundation site assessment
- Sub-seabed resource and hazard mapping
- Marine environmental monitoring
